Freeform Soldering

In the summer of 2019, I was inspired by Mohit Bhoite‘s freeform electronics sculptures because of the unique aesthetic of freeform soldering. Bhoite kindly provided some tutorials and a template on his website and Instagram-account, so I was able to quickly try out some of his designs.

Experimenting a little with existing designs allowed me to become more comfortable with the technique and better understand its possibilities and limitations. For the green LED matrix, I designed a bending jig that would allow me to bend every LED in exactly the same orientation, which helped me create neat solder joints later on.

Exploring the possibilities of this technique has helped me develop in Creativity and Aesthetics, while creating the designs with suitable electronics and software helped me develop in Technology and Realisation.
